The Kitchen Supervisor will have a passion for cooking vegetarian and vegan food, made fresh on the premises daily from organic and locally sourced ingredients, and bring innovative ideas to improve the products offered on our menu. 

 

The successful candidate will be able to cater to special dietary requirements and keep up with food trends. 

 

Reporting directly to the Community Manager, the kitchen supervisor will be responsible for cooking and food production, and the supervision and training of kitchen staff (employees & volunteers including adult day opportunities participants - people with learning and other disabilities). 

 

The kitchen supervisor will be aware of the cost of production, quality assurance, and ensure profitability of all specials and menu items.

 

Responsibilities of Kitchen Supervisor:

  • Working with adult participants, assisting them with training, supervision and achieving their aims and goals
  • Cooking and serving vegetarian and vegan dishes, freshly prepared each day, to suit the needs of customers - working efficiently and effectively to gather, wash, cut, season, cook and store quality ingredients
  • Development of new menus and items to ensure the business moves with customer trends, and can cater to special dietary requirements
  • Recommend and implement strategies to reduce cost of goods sold - apportion ingredients effectively and control costs by calculating portions per food batch etc.
  • Working with kitchen staff to ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene standards, and general health and safety standards e.g. maintain a clean and safe work area, adhere to mandatory record keeping requirements, and recognise equipment maintenance and repair needs to ensure safe environment
  • Exemplary customer service
  • Prioritise and delegate tasks in kitchen, implement techniques to ensure speed of service and quality control including practical training for all kitchen staff (cooking skills, keeping up with high standards of food production, kitchen cleanliness, health and safety – ensuring that all staff are aware of their responsibilities, can use equipment carefully and safely to prevent damage or injury).
  • Organise inventory, ensure efficient rotation and management of all stock including assisting with ordering all ingredients required, in a timely manner
  • Understand and ensure that allergen requirements are met for all meals produced
  • Working together with Management to ensure that maximum profit is generated through lowering wastage, high quality produce, new and inventive products and good customer service
  • Some bakery duties and other kitchen duties as assigned, to suit business needs.

 

Essential criteria

 

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification

Experience & Essential Qualities

  • 2 years’ experience as a chef or cook, or catering qualification and 1 years’ experience in a chef/catering role
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Willingness to be flexible with roles to include interaction with food & beverage customers and other guests of Camphill Holywood where required
  • Maintain good rapport with suppliers and salespeople from various partners
  • Punctual, dependable and flexible to work weekends and holidays as required
  • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Supervision and direction of line cooks and kitchen attendants
  • Must have a neat appearance and be well groomed

 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Barista trained
  • Experience of supervising volunteers  
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities
